Dorene M (Hokenson) Aird

Laurium – Dorene Aird, age 89, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at the UPHS-Portage.  She was born on December 25, 1932 in Hubbell, Michigan to George and Edna (Ewen) Hokenson.  Dorene graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette in 1950 and attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1953.  She then worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia, MI and the Calumet Public Hospital from 1970 to the time of her retirement in 1994.  On August 7, 1954 she married John W. Aird in Marquette.  Together they raised six children residing from Alpena to Detroit, finally settling in Laurium.  She is preceded in death by her husband John in 2008, her parents, grandson Tyler Aird, brothers Earl (Alice) Hokenson, Ted (Agnes) Hokenson, sister-in-law Mary Beauchamp, brothers-in-law Joseph Paul and William Aird.  Dorene is survived by her children, Helen (Dennis) Girard, Joan (David) Marx, Katherine Massoglia (Charles Kemppainen), Ruth (George) Isola, David (Colleen) Aird, and Daniel (Lori) Aird; grandchildren Andrew (Elena), Kevin, Brett (Anne) Girard; Nick and Peter (Brianne Tirschel) Marx;  Julie (Daniel) Giachino, Sarah (Matthew) Hampton; Matthew (Kelsey) and Nathan (Sarah) Isola; Jacqueline and Brendan Aird; Dylan (Andria Merrill), Rachael (Matthew Zabycz), and Dalton Aird; great-grandchildren Carson and Claire Girard; Cameron Marx; Ava and Mia Giachino; Sophia, Abby and Henrik Hampton; John, Darleen, Aubree, William, and Isaac Isola; Lorna Isola; and also sister-in-law Donna Aird and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.

The family would like to thank Donna, Rita, Nancy, and Carol in helping us take care of our mother.  Also, Dr Bonnie Hafeman, the staff at Portage Pointe, and UPHS-Portage for their comforting care.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Sacred Heart Church.  Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Burial will take place immediately following Mass.  A luncheon will be served at the chuch hall.  Online condolences at ryanfhcalumet.com.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Dorene’s name to Keweenaw Catholic Missions or Calumet All-Sports Booster Club.  Ryan Funeral Home is serving the family.
