Calumet – James David Stetter, 80, a resident of Calumet passed away Friday evening, November 24, 2023 unexpectedly from complications from several health issues.
He was born in Dearborn, MI on October 21, 1943 the son of the late Damos Stetter and Elanor (Nealt) Wiitanen. The family later moved to Hancock where he grew up on Quincy Hill location and attended Hancock schools.
Jamo worked for the C&H mine in his early career before sailing as a USMM on the Great Lakes and later with the Military Sea Lift Command, which was his passion. Unfortunately, due to his health issues he was forced into retirement against his will in 2008.
Jamo enjoyed visiting with his buddies Peckie and Rodney Peters, and if he could beat Rodney at a game of cribbage it made the visit even better. Anyone who know Jamo knew his love for cribbage! He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports.
Proceeding him in death were is parents, sister; Nadine, and three brothers; Dennis, Duane, and Joe.
Surviving are his three children; James “Jimmer” Stetter of Sarasota, Geraldine (Mitch) Matson of Jacobsville and Penny (Bill) Lahnala of Calumet. His grandchildren, which he loved and was so proud of; Danny (Jenna) Hendrickson of Harvey, Mindi (Rick) Garrow of Harvey, Lucas (Rachel) Lahnala of Bootjack, and Emily (Josh) Lahnala of Ahmeek. His two great granddaughters…his pride and joy: Riley Garrow and Ivy Hendrickson.
Friends may call the Ryan Funeral Home in Calumet on Saturday December 2nd from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will be scheduled for 1:000 p.m. with Pastor Jared Howard to officiate. Spring burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
