Calumet – John W. Erkkila 83, passed away on March 16th at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Calumet, a son of Wesley and Dorothy Erkkila and graduated from Calumet High School. John worked as a drift miner for C & H Mining Company and later worked as a salesman for Peterlin Distributing Company for over thirty years, retiring in 2000. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sharon, daughter Johnna (James) Therrian of Laurium, son Jon (Rachel) of Iowa, two granddaughters, Kristen (Samuel) Perram of Canton, MI, Lily Erkkila and one special grandson Dashael Erkkila, both of Iowa. He is also survived by his three siblings, Paul (Patti) of Rensellaer, NY, Albert (Rita) of Calumet, and Barbara (Paul) of California, an uncle Harry (Caroline) of Calumet, nephew Albert and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
