Vernon Kangas

Calumet – Vernon W. Kangas age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 19th, 2020 with his family by his side.  Vernon was born on June 1, 1935 in Mohawk, Michigan to Eli and Aurora (Waara) Kangas, the sixth of twelve children.  He married Jeannette Newman on October 9, 1954 in Calumet.  They lived most of their married life in Calumet.  Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eli and 2 infant brothers.  Surviving are his wife Jeannette and their eleven children:  Audrey Kangas, Calumet; Marcia (Bob) Frantti, Calumet; Bruce (Jennie) Kangas of Chassell; RuthAnn (Brad) Morris, Cokato,MN; Aaron (Margaret) Kangas, Calumet; Kristine (Paul) Poyhonen, Calumet;  Loren (Jennie) Kangas, Brighton; Roger (Laura)  Kangas, Calumet; Eric (Kate) Kangas, Dollar Bay; Mark (Kristina)of Delano,MN; and Amy (Rusty) Pietila of Hancock.  Also surviving are 89 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Aili and (Ray) Nelson, Reuben Kangas, Marilyn (Henry) L’esperance, Norma (Don) Anderson, Clarice (Jim) Pesonen, Wesley (Cheryl) Kangas, Lorene (Gerald) Kumpula, Ronald (Barb) Kangas, sister-in-law Carolyn Kangas and brother-in-law Gordon Newman.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet at 1:00 p.m. Pastor David Taivalkoski will officiate.  Ryan Funeral Home is serving the family.
